Bradford will pay its respects to those who lost their lives in conflicts around the world at a special annual Festival of Remembrance.
The district's 70th annual Festival of Remembrance on Sunday 6 November at 5pm will take place at Bradford Cathedral, due to the usual venue St George’s Hall being closed for refurbishment.
It is an important year in which we commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme where thousands of Bradford Pals lost their lives or were injured, as well as marking the 60th anniversary of the Suez Crisis.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor, Geoff Reid and his wife the Lady Mayoress Chris Reid will be attending this free event, where all are welcome. The programme includes music from the City of Bradford Brass Band under Director Lee Skipsey, songs from soprano Claire White-McKay and children from St John’s C of E Primary School as well as the wonderful Bradford Cathedral Choir. The event will also include the traditional Parade of Standards and Act of Remembrance.
Those attending the event will also be able to view the Chaplains of the First World War exhibition at the Cathedral. The exhibition focuses on telling the story of the Army and Navy Chaplains who supported British and Empire forces during the First World War and runs from Friday 4 to Saturday 26 November.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor, Geoff Reid, said: “The Festival of Remembrance is always very special and I hope people will support this event. It is important that we remember all those who have lost their lives, been wounded, have suffered or are still suffering in any way, due to past and present conflicts around the world."
The Dean of Bradford Cathedral, the Very Reverend Jerry Lepine, said: “I look forward to welcoming people to the Cathedral for the Festival of Remembrance. I hope that people will also take the time to view the Chaplains of the First World War exhibition which tells the moving stories of those brave men who, although they received little or no training and went to battle fields unarmed, gave great comfort and compassion to the fighting men.”
