Cafes and restaurants across Bradford city centre are supporting mums who are breastfeeding during National Breastfeeding Celebration Week which runs up until 27th June 2016.
Businesses have signed up to offer a no purchase necessary "give a free drink, get a free drink,” promotion.
The week is an opportunity for everyone including mothers, breastfeeding peer supporters and health professionals to come together and share what works well to support breastfeeding in our local communities.
This year, The National Breastfeeding Celebration Week is concentrating on how ‘everyone in local communities can support mothers to breastfeed. And k provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the good work that is going on around the district, inspire others and promote the support available to women and their families.”
Sam Britton, Midwife and Infant feeding Advisor for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:
"It is important that the whole community values breastfeeding for mothers, babies and the longer term health of the community but also that they recognise that mothers need support to successfully breastfeed. The campaign is one way of helping mothers to feel supported whilst feeding away from the home.
"Breastfeeding doesn’t always go according to natures plan. Some mothers may have difficulty, in the early weeks, but with appropriate and timely support most difficulties can be overcome.
"Mums can access specialist breastfeeding services at Airedale Hospital and Bradford Teaching Hospitals Royal and via the Bradford District Health Visiting Service
"Breastfeeding doesn’t only benefit babies, it benefits mothers too, and the districts breastfeeding strategy is a key part of the Every Baby Matters action plan.”
