Bradford Boxer Harris Akbar has won a silver medal at the Under 22 European Boxing Championship in Russia.
The 20-year-old picked up one of six silver and two bronze medals won by the Great Britain Boxing squad at the tournament.
Akbar, who still represents Bradford Police and College Boxing Club and is coached by Bradford College boxing coach, Mally McIver, just missed out on a gold medal after losing the final on a controversial 3-2 split decision to his Russian opponent.
The welterweight was among 296 competitors from 38 countries.
GB Boxing’s Performance Director, Rob McCracken said: “This was a superb performance from the team and it was great to see boxers from all three home nations winning medals and performing so well at a very tough competition.
“The overall medals won by the team shows the strength in depth that we are developing within the squad and that the close relationships between GB Boxing’s pathways team and those in England, Scotland and Wales are helping to produce some great talents.”
