Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted theft of a car in a robbery in Heckmondwike

Kirklees CID would like to speak to anyone who has information or who witnessed the incident which took place on Church Street on Wednesday 1 November between 6.40pm and 6.50pm.

It took place after the victim, a 61-year-old man, was forced to stop his vehicle while driving on Church Street after a male stood in front of it.

Another man then approached the side of the car, opened the door, and ordered the man to get out.

The victim refused, managed to close the door and drove off.

The man who stopped the car was white, 17 to 20-years-old, 5ft 8 to 6ft tall, and of a slim build wearing a light, possibly grey hooded top with the hood up.  He was also wearing a dark bandana with light spots on his chin.

The second suspect who spoke was described as Asian, in his late teens to early 20s, 5ft 7in to 6ft in height, of average build and wearing a dark hoody with a dark bandana below the chin.

PC Lisa Saberton of Kirklees CID said: “We are investigating and appealing to witnesses to what was a frightening experience for the victim which left him unharmed but understandably shaken.

“We have had reports of males fitting the suspect’s description hanging around near to the incident on Sunnyside earlier in the day and standing around next to a fried chicken takeaway on Horton Street the day before.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen or can identify these males, or who may have information about the attempted theft to come forwards.

“Information can be given to Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13180548655.

“It can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
