Artists are being invited to submit entries for the Bradford Open 2019 art competition.

The competition and exhibition - funded by the Friends of Bradford Art Galleries and Museums - is open to anyone who is 16 and over who lives, works or studies in the Bradford district.

Artwork can be submitted in any medium and will be judged for inclusion in the exhibition at Cartwright Hall by an invited panel.

This year the panel of judges includes Bradford Mafia artist John Loker and Caroline Douglas, Director of Contemporary Art Society.

Artists may submit up to three works which can be dropped off at Cartwright Hall between 19 and 25 January.

The Bradford Open 2019 exhibition will run from 2 February to 5 May, with the winner announced at the official launch on Sunday 3 February. The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali will be attending and there will be live music by The Peace Artistes Street Band.

The winning art work from 2017 was an animation entitled Follow Me by Lou Sumray. Second prize went to Ian Robinson for his oil painting entitled Violet and Benito and the third prize was won by Eva Mileusnic for her ceramic work entitled Counter Flow.

Maggie Pedley, Libraries, Museums and Galleries Manager at Bradford Council, said: “The Bradford Open 2019 is a really important highlight of the Bradford cultural calendar. It shows off and celebrates the amazing creative talent we have in our district. Bradford is such a creative place and I’m sure we will have some incredibly stunning entries for this year’s competition.”
