A man has been jailed after a robbery in Tameside.
Michael Clayton (22/08/91) of Park Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Manchester Crown Court, after pleading guilty to business robbery.
On Wednesday 15 February 2017, Clayton entered a McDonald’s restaurant on Snipe Retail Park, Ashton-under-Lyne with a pool cue and a walking stick handle, which were concealed in a plastic bag to give the impression of a firearm.
He pointed the bag at staff behind the till and demanded that they hand over money. After receiving a quantity of cash, he demanded more while banging the pool cue on the counter. He then fled the scene but was detained outside the premises by two members of the public.
Detective Constable Wayne Marshall, of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “Clayton is now facing the consequences of his reckless actions, which frightened innocent members of the community, all for petty cash from a till. I would like to commend the staff for their bravery, as well as the two members of the public for detaining the offender until police arrived, despite the offender’s struggles.”
