A Bradford Jewellers has melted down stolen jewellery a Court has heard after items were taken from an unlocked car.
Bradford Crown Court heard that five days after the theft 25 year old Robert Ineson and his 20 year old partner Toni-ann Allen, along with 21 year old Carl Bottomley, were trying to sell the stolen items in Keighley but to no avail, they then tried Chacha Jewllers in Bradford where they succeeded in selling the goods for £4,250.
The three, all of Adelaide House, Crosley Wood Road, Bingley, pleaded guilty to dishonestly handling the stolen jewellery and were each sentenced to 12 month community orders with unpaid work. Ineson and Bottomley were each ordered to pay the victim £2,000 compensation and Allen was ordered to pay her £500.
A spokesman for Chacha Jewellers told Sunrise Radio the incident had been a genuine error, staff had observed the usual formalities but an error of judgement had been made by a staff member. The family run firm has since reimbursed the victim with the profits made from the items with an apology.
