The son of a convicted child abuser has been sentenced to a 12-month community order for witness intimidation.
Kaleem Ali, of Clough Road, Masborough, appeared at court for trial charged with witness intimidation and was found guilty of the offence last month.
The court heard how Ali approached a child sexual exploitation victim in Rotherham in March 2015, she was one of the victims who gave evidence in the trial of his father Qurban and five others. The victim, now a young woman, is part of Operation Clover – a joint investigation by South Yorkshire Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
At Rotherham Magistrates’ Court, Ali was sentenced to a 12-month community order, a curfew between 7pm and 7am for 12 weeks and was electronically tagged.
He was also given a restraining order against him having contact with the victim for three years, and he must pay £360 costs.
Detective Constable Carly Booth, investigating officer, said: “I really hope this successful conviction offers further reassurance to victims that we take offences of this nature incredibly seriously.
“Trying to scare or intimidate witnesses will absolutely not be tolerated and we will do whatever we can to bring these individuals before the courts.”
