Transport planners from Bradford could end up working more closely with their regional counterparts as part of a West Yorkshire-wide service.
Staff from Bradford Council and other authorities are proposing to combine to bring a more integrated strategy across the whole region instead of working in isolation.
The council says benefits could include reduced costs for Council Tax-payers from economies of scale and increased efficiency.
A report to next week’s Executive says that regional transport planning could see reduced journey times by better management of traffic congestion, leading to better air quality across West Yorkshire.
Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “It makes sense for us to co-operate more closely with nearby authorities and to remove as many obstacles as possible to improve journey times and reduce traffic congestion across the whole region.
“This is a long-term project but from initial discussions with other local authorities we can see that there are many benefits which could result from a more resilient and cost-efficient service.”
At a meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, September, 11, members of the Executive will be asked to endorse the setting up of the UTMC.
