A man has been jailed after attempting to smuggle 74,000 cigarettes from Nigeria through Leeds Bradford Airport.
Bradford Crown Court heard Olaniyi Samuyiwa, 53, was caught with four suitcases of contraband goods on 17 July last year.
Samuyiwa, of Westbourne House, Wheatlands, Hounslow, London, claimed he was a “heavy smoker” and that the cigarettes were for his own use, in a bid to evade £22,882 in excise duty.
He was jailed for eight months.
