Youngsters who went into the woods on Sunday were in for a big surprise - a first hand CSI demonstration from their local NPT!
Officers from the Huddersfield NPT Team 1 and specialist crime scene investigators provided youngsters from the Lindley based New Horizon Scout group with a chance to see police work and vehicles in action in a special role play at Bradley Woods last Sunday ( May 21)
Boys and girls present were given the chance to join in with finger print dusting, blood sample testing and also try on mini police uniforms.
The mini police officers were also given a tour of the caged area of a police van and - of course- let out afterwards!
The special visit was carried out with New Horizons group as part of a rolling programme of inputs from local officers with young people in their area.
Sergeant Caroline Loran of the Huddersfield NPT, said: “Initiatives like these are brilliant ways for us to meet with young people from our communities, help them dispel some myths about policing, and make the uniform a little less scary for them.
“We always use these inputs to provide safety briefings for children while helping them engage with us in a really fun and positive way to make the whole experience memorable.
“If we can build bridges with the children from such a young age it can encourage them to speak and engage with us in later life and as well, perhaps even provide children with an early hint about a career in policing.
“I want to thank the New Horizons group for agreeing to the input and colleagues from CSI for their support in what proved to be a brilliant and really fun day for all.”
