A Bradford father who almost killed his 6 year old son in a violent fit of temper has been sentenced to five year prison term, four years in jail and a further year on extended licence.
Bradford Crown Court heard that the 36 year old father who previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was not taking his medication at the time of the attack kicked his young son in the stomach so violently that the child suffered a perforated bowel and multiple bruising.
The Court was told that psychiatric and probation reports suggested that the man posed a serious risk if he did not take his medication.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with causing his son grievous bodily harm with intent but a plea of unlawful wounding was accepted by the Crown.
