Bradford Libraries are inviting children and families to enjoy a summer of reading, music and creative activities as the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge gets underway.
Bradford Libraries are launching this year's Summer Reading Challenge, encouraging children and families to enjoy a summer packed with books, creativity and free activities.
The 2026 challenge officially begins with a launch event at Manningham Library on Saturday 4 July, from 12pm until 2.30pm. Families can enjoy live music, dance workshops, storytelling, Mehndi, Rangoli, arts and crafts, refreshments and the opportunity to sign up for the challenge.
This year's theme, "Read to the Beat!", celebrates the connection between reading, music and creativity, encouraging children aged 4 to 11 to continue reading throughout the school holidays while collecting rewards along the way.
Delivered by Bradford Libraries in partnership with The Reading Agency, the Summer Reading Challenge aims to boost confidence, maintain literacy skills and inspire a lifelong love of books.
Alongside the children's challenge, adults are also being encouraged to explore the new Read On app, which offers personalised book recommendations and reading inspiration to help families enjoy reading together.
Councillor Ian Walker said the challenge is a fantastic way to keep children engaged with reading over the holidays while encouraging the whole family to develop positive reading habits.
