Two Bradford councillors have been shortlisted for Local Government annual achievement awards.
Former Lord Mayor of Bradford, and Labour councillor for Great Horton for a decade, Councillor Joanne Dodds has been shortlisted in the Metropolitan Borough Councillor of the Year category.
She is up against councillors from Leeds, Lambeth, Westminster and Wigan.
Joanne was a very hands-on Lord Mayor who abseiled, ran a 10k race, tried her hand at pulling pints at a local brewery and raised more than £60,000 for her two charities, The Bradford Children's Hospital and Spread a Smile, the latter helping dozens of small local charities.
Joanne thoroughly enjoyed her civic year when as ambassador for the city, she showcased Bradford to people from across the UK and around the world.
Joanne said: "I was so proud to be nominated and absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted. As a dedicated ward councillor I feel I am a powerful advocate for my communities and work hard to address their concerns and needs.
"My year as Lord Mayor was just amazing. I loved every moment of it. We have so much to be proud of in the Bradford District. It was a real privilege meeting so many fantastic people from all walks of life. I will never forget all those wonderful experiences, opportunities and events, it certainly was a unique and memorable year of my life."
Councillor Fozia Shaheen (pictured), who became a councillor in May last year, is in contention for Young Councillor of the Year 2016. She is up against councillors from Boston, Cheshire, Kirklees and Walsall.
Fozia is a young woman who has quickly risen through the ranks to take on executive assistant to the portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing in which she looks at children's services, looked-after children, housing, the Born in Bradford project and many public health issues.
Fozia is also a member of the Children's Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Employment Appeals Panel and Bradford West Area Committee, as well as being the lead voice for the Children's Care Council and Youth Voice.
Fozia also has a great deal of experience in the voluntary sector and has been a Project Manager for young adults with disabilities for ten years.
Fozia said: "I was born and bred in Bradford and take pride in my working class roots. I am particularly interested in the needs and concerns of young people and women in my local community and have a lot of passion for my role."
Bradford Council leader, Coun Susan Hinchcliffe, said: "Joanne and Fozia are great women and fellow councillors. They deserve to win for all their hard work and dedication. I feel very privileged to work with them both."
Winners will be announced on Tuesday November 1 at the Guildhall's Livery Hall in London.
It is the seventh annual awards organised by the Local Government Information Unit and the CCLA.
