People across Yorkshire will be bringing in their WW1 artefacts to Bradford to be digitised as part of a campaign to preserve memories of the Great War.
Lest We Forget: Keep Their Stories Alive is a project run in partnership between the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation and the University of Oxford to create a national digital archive.
Max Dutton, Assistant Historian at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission commented: "Archives provide a vital link with the past. Thanks to the funding of the National Lottery Heritage Fund Lest We Forget: Keep Their Stories Alive allows us to preserve our WW1 heritage for current and future generations. We hope this event inspires the local community across Bradford to learn more about their First World War past."
Hosted at Bradford City Hall, the public will be met by a team of experts and trained volunteers, where they will learn more about their artefacts and each item will be accurately recorded into the archive.
Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Zafar Ali, said: "We’re delighted to host the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as they carry out this important work. Bradford district has a proud tradition of honouring the men and women who served and sacrificed during the First World War and I’m sure many of our residents will have some fascinating stories and artefacts to contribute to the archive."
