Wibsey Library, which closed last month for urgent repairs to the floor, is likely to remain closed until June.
It had originally been hoped the library would be back open this week but difficulties in getting hold of contractors at short notice mean it is not now expected to be ready to reopen for around two months.
Customers are still able to contact staff on the Wibsey Library phone number. Wyke is the nearest alternative library.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We understand the frustration and inconvenience this will cause our Wibsey customers but want to assure them that the library will be back open as soon as possible.
“The work that needs doing is absolutely essential. We are committed to investing in maintaining and enhancing our libraries as we know just how valued they are by residents. This work will help ensure the building is in good shape for the long term.
“This is just the start of improvements planned for Wibsey Library, which we will be engaging with local people about in future months *.”
