Two boys aged two and three who died in a house fire in Huddersfield have been named as three-year-old Logan Taylor and two-year-old Jake Casey.
Police were called to an address in Alder Street, Huddersfield, shortly before 2.15pm on Saturday (Saturday, 20 February) after being made aware by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service of a house fire with persons reported inside.
A woman and a child, who had been in the property, had made their own way out prior to the arrival of the emergency services with fire crews removing two other children from the address. Both of these children were pronounced deceased a short time later. They have been named as three-year-old Logan Taylor and two-year-old Jake Casey.
Police are continuing to work closely with colleagues from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in investigating this incident, which appears at this stage to be a tragic accident. Police will maintain oversight until the full findings of the investigation are confirmed.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton said: “Our thoughts and condolences following this tragedy are extended to the family and friends of Logan and Jake.
“Whilst early indications are that the cause of the fire is not suspicious, investigations are on-going and it may be some days before we have a conclusive cause of the fire.
“We will continue to work closely alongside our partners at West Yorkshire Police in the coming days whilst the investigation progresses.”
Dep Chief Fire Officer Walton added: “‘We can confirm that at the time of the fire, there were no working smoke alarms in the property. Further investigations are on-going to determine the exact circumstances but we urge people to always have a working smoke alarm and to test it regularly.”
Fire crews will be in the area over the coming days offering fire safety advice and fitting smoke alarms, where required.
