Two people have been arrested following an early morning police raid at a suspected brothel in Oldham, after years of concerns raised by residents and local businesses.
Greater Manchester Police have arrested two people following an early morning raid at premises on Broadway in Oldham, suspected of being used as a brothel.
Officers from the Oldham Neighbourhood Team executed a warrant at approximately 4.45am on Wednesday, 14 October, supported by the Tactical Aid Unit.
The operation followed years of intelligence gathering and concerns raised by local residents and businesses about activities at the address.
Police said a breakthrough came after officers examined a mobile phone seized during an unrelated arrest of a man believed to be connected to the business.
Evidence recovered from the device provided investigators with grounds to suspect the premises was being used for controlling prostitution, allowing officers to obtain a search warrant.
During the raid, officers located a woman in her 40s. Following discussions with police and the implementation of safeguarding measures, she was arrested on suspicion of immigration-related offences and possession of Class A drugs.
Officers also recovered cash, timesheets and other items as part of their continuing investigation.
A man believed to be the owner of the premises later attended the scene and was arrested on suspicion of controlling prostitution for financial gain.
Police subsequently issued a Closure Notice against the business, with the matter due to be considered at court on Friday, 16 October, when officers will seek a Closure Order.
Police Sergeant Tom Layton said the action followed longstanding concerns from the community and extensive partnership working.
He explained that the Closure Notice would immediately disrupt suspected criminal activity at the premises while legal proceedings continued.
Neighbourhood Inspector Amie Whitehead emphasised that exploiting vulnerable people for financial gain is a serious offence.
She said protecting potentially vulnerable individuals remains a priority, alongside pursuing those suspected of criminal activity.
Greater Manchester Police have thanked residents and businesses for providing information and are encouraging anyone concerned about suspected exploitation or criminal activity to contact police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
