Pair Jailed After Violent Leeds Burglaries

Two people have been jailed for a combined 24 years and six months following a series of violent burglaries and robberies across Leeds that left victims seriously injured.

Two people have been sentenced at Leeds Crown Court following a series of violent offences committed over two days in February 2026.

Lee Wakefield, 41, of Wepener Mount, Harehills, was jailed for 13 years and nine months, while Jessica Stewart, 28, of Simmons Court, Cross Green, received a sentence of 10 years and nine months.

On 28 February, Stewart threatened an elderly man in Cross Green with what appeared to be a handgun, demanding money. The victim handed over £200 and was left so shaken that he subsequently left the property.

Stewart later returned to the address, broke in and caused significant damage.

On the same day, Wakefield and Stewart carried out an aggravated burglary at a property in Ascot Terrace, Richmond Hill, demanding items from those inside.

One victim suffered life-changing injuries, including a broken arm, fractured leg and fractured ribs. Another required hospital treatment following a head injury.

Early the following morning, Stewart attempted to rob a woman walking through Harehills with her adult daughter and two young children, threatening her with what appeared to be a handgun.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police's Leeds District Crime Team linked the offenders to the incidents through CCTV footage, forensic evidence and witness accounts.

Wakefield admitted aggravated burglary, two counts of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

Stewart admitted offences including robbery, aggravated burglary, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of an offensive weapon, burglary with intent to steal and attempted robbery.

Detective Sergeant Robert Kennerley said the pair had caused serious physical injuries and left their victims traumatised, describing the incidents as involving extreme violence and intimidation.

Both were sentenced on Tuesday, 13 October.
