The teenage son of one of the men convicted of horrific child sex abuse in Rotherham has been found guilty of intimidating a female witness ahead of his father's two month trial.
An 18-year-old man has been found guilty of witness intimidation at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court.
Kaleem Ali, of Clough Road, Masborough, appeared at court for trial charged with witness intimidation. He was found guilty of the offence.
He has been bailed to appear before the same court on Tuesday 22 March for sentencing.
The court heard how Ali approached a child sexual exploitation victim in Rotherham in March 2015. The victim, now a young woman, is part of Operation Clover – a joint investigation by South Yorkshire Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
Ali’s father, Qurban Ali (pictured), was jailed last week for ten years for conspiracy to rape.
Detective Constable Carly Booth, investigating officer, said: “Ali behaved in an intimidating and threatening manner towards one of the young woman who courageously came forward to report years of sexual abuse.
“Ali’s behaviour is inexcusable – he terrified this young woman, leaving her shaking and crying. Her strength has continued throughout this separate investigation and I hope she views today’s result as another positive step forward.
“Trying to scare or intimidate witnesses will absolutely not be tolerated and we will do whatever we can to bring these individuals before the courts.”
