Detectives investigating the murder of a man whose body was found in a Leeds park last year are appealing to identify a potential witness seen near the scene.
The body of Polish national Waldek Mural, aged 57, was found in Burley Park, off Cardigan Lane, shortly before 7am on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
Grzegorz Kowalczyk, aged 41, from Headingley, was charged with the murder on September 11 last year and is due for trial at Leeds Crown Court.
Officers have today released footage of a man they want to speak to as a potential witness. He was filmed on a mobile phone by a concerned member of the public who came across him sitting on a wall by the side of road in Park View Road, Burley, at about 2am on the day Mr Mural’s body was found nearby in the park. He appears to be in his late teens to early twenties, slim, with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt with bands of white round the sleeves, dark-coloured jeans and white trainers.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Dunkerley, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This man was seen in the vicinity of where Mr Mural’s body was found and we urgently need to trace him to establish if he has any information that could assist the investigation. “He appeared to be slightly worse for wear, possibly after a night out. We would like to hear from that man himself or from anyone who recognises him so we can speak to him at the earliest opportunity.”
Information can either be passed directly to the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101 or anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
