A 32-year-old woman stole toys worth hundreds of pounds because she wanted to give her daughters a proper Christmas.
Kirklees Magistrates Court heard how Victoria Lee filled her trolley with games, toy horses and dolls and tried to leave without paying.
Lee, of Thorn Drive, Leeds was cautioned in 2010 for shoplifting but had no previous convictions.
Prosecutor Andy Wills described her attempt as “unsophisticated and not particularly well thought out”.
She admitted to the £600 theft, was fined £40, and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
