An Oldham pensioner has been arrested after a cat was found with gunshot wounds.
On Tuesday 7 August at around 7.30am, police executed a warrant at a property on Bardsley Vale Avenue.
Following the warrant, officers seized a number of firearms and ammunition from the property.
On Thursday 9 August, a 72-year-old man was arrested in Oldham on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The warrant was executed in connection with an incident on 28 July where a cat was found to have caught its paw in a snare at a property on the same street.
Officers attended and found the cat also had an air weapon pellet in her paw.
Detective Inspector Claire McGuire, from GMP’s Xcalibre Task Force, said: “I understand that this incident may cause concern in the community however I want to reassure local residents that we have a team of officers working hard on this investigation.
“People may notice an increased police presence in the surrounding area as we carry out our enquiries today, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to please approach one of our officers.”
