A man has been arrested after the body of a teenage girl was found in Salford.
At around 9.25am on Monday 28 January 2019 police were called to reports that a 16-year-old girl was missing from her home in Prestwich, Bury.
Shortly before 9.45am police received a second call saying that the girl had been found dead in a derelict building near to Brookside Drive in Kersal.
Greater Manchester Police said detectives are working to establish he cause of the girl’s death.
A 41-year-old man was arrested later on suspicion of murder.
Greater Manchester Police’s Superintendent Caroline Hemmingway said: “We are currently investigating the tragic death of a 16-year-old girl in Kersal, and it is our top priority to find out exactly how she died.
“We have arrested a man in connection with the girl’s death however we are still keeping an open mind and will be exploring all avenues.
“The investigation is still in its early stages and a scene remains in place in the building near to Brookside Drive.
“We would like to hear form anyone who heard or saw anything unusual this morning around Brookside Drive to get in touch as soon as possible.
“We are trying to piece together this puzzle and help give the girl’s family the answers they deserve.”
