A dangerous driver has been jailed for nine months after almost “wiping out” an ambulance in a high-speed pursuit with police.
Sheikh Miah, 24, of Grosvenor Road, Manningham, Bradford, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice by ringing the police to pretend the car had been stolen.
The incident occurred at 9:15am on on May 23 when Miah sped off after officers saw his blue VW Passat braking heavily on Springfield Place, Manningham.
Throughout the two-minute pursuit Miah almost hit an oncoming car on Lumb Lane, as well as narrowly avoiding an ambulance at the junction with Carlisle Road, all while going 60mph in a 30 zone.
He ran red lights on and continued to drive dangerously before police eventually lost sight of the car on St Mary’s Road.
Officers managed to find the vehicle abandoned on Park Drive with the lights on, with the driver having fled on foot. A passenger that stayed with the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Miah later rang the police to report the car as stolen, but hung up when pressed for details. Police subsequently attended his address and arrested him.
He was subsequently jailed for nine months for dangerous driving as well as being banned from driving for two years.
