Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information after a man and woman were threatened with machetes during a burglary in East Didsbury.
Shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday 12 August, officers were called to reports that armed thieves had entered a property on Kingsway, East Didsbury.
Three men broke into the house through the front door, armed with machetes and a baseball bat, and threatened a man and a woman in their 60s, before stealing money and jewellery.
One of the offenders held a machete to the man’s throat, punched him several times in the head, and threatened to kill him if he didn’t hand over valuables.
The woman was forced upstairs by one of the offenders who then held a machete to her throat, punched her in the face, and threatened to kill her if she didn’t comply.
The offenders then fled the scene with a quantity of cash and jewellery in a black 4x4 vehicle.
Detective Inspector Madeline Kelly, from GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “These criminals have put their victims through a truly harrowing ordeal. No one should be subjected to such a terrifying attack in their own home.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to please get in touch with the police as soon as possible.
"Perhaps you were driving along Kingsway and saw something, which now on reflection may be relevant. My team are on hand to follow up any lines of enquiry.
“We are determined to find those responsible for this terrible crime and ensure that criminals like this are off our streets.”
