Bradford is amongst a number of local authority areas in Yorkshire and the Humber not meeting its recycling targets.
The current UK target is 50 per cent, but figures from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), analysed by waste experts InSinkErator, show Bradford Council's rate stood at 34.6 per cent in 2017/18 – placing it 276th out of 353 areas.
The figures show the East Riding of Yorkshire - the only council area in the region to exceed the target - tops the nationwide table with a recycling rate of 65 per cent.
