Police are appealing for potential victims of distraction burglaries to come forward after a woman was charged and remanded in custody.
Officers from the Bradford District Crime Team would like to speak with anyone who may have had a woman pretending to be a charity worker knocking at their door and asking to use the toilet or for a drink in the last few months.
A 29-year-old woman from Bradford was remanded into custody by magistrates on Tuesday after she was charged with two burglaries in Bradford District where the victims were lone, elderly people.
Detective Inspector Damian Roebuck, said:
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been approached under these pretences recently to contact us, so we can establish the full extent of offending and safeguard those who may have been targeted.
“Should you receive an unexpected cold caller we would advise you to keep your front door locked and ask that person who they are and which organisation they represent.
“Genuine callers should have a business card they can post through your letterbox or at the very least should be able to provide contact details for their employers. They should not mind while you make this important check.
“If you are still not convinced then ask the person to leave and contact the police on 101 or online via the West Yorkshire Police website.”
