A man has suffered life-changing injuries after he was attacked by a thief who left him with a fractured skull.
The incident that took place in June last year saw Nathan Snowden punch the 58-year-old man after stealing his phone.
Snowden handed himself to the police when he learnt how seriously injured his victim was.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Judge Colin Burn sentenced Snowden to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a three month curfew order and 200 hours of unpaid work.
He was ordered to pay Mr Ratcliffe £1,000 compensation.
