Bollywood stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta are back on the big screen together as their new film Batwara 1947 arrives in cinemas today.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under Aamir Khan Productions, the period drama is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947.
The film was previously known as Lahore 1947 before being renamed Batwara 1947 ahead of its release.
Alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, the film features Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
The story follows families caught up in the chaos and upheaval surrounding Partition, focusing on courage and compassion as people's lives are transformed by the division.
The project also reunites Sunny Deol with director Rajkumar Santoshi. The pair previously worked together on films including Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak.
Preity Zinta's involvement has also attracted considerable attention, marking a major return to Hindi cinema for the actress and reuniting her on screen with Sunny Deol.
Music for the film is by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Batwara 1947 opens in cinemas today, 14 August.
