Kami Sid poses for a photoshoot as Pakistan's first transgender model and the world truly loves it!
Life is no bed of roses for the third gender; from the minute the are born to the time they die, they are mocked and ridiculed. Unaccepted by the society, it becomes impossible for them to survive like normal individuals. However, in the same world where all the bad things happen to them, Pakistan takes a step towards empowering its transgender community. Fashion meets social responsibility and welcomes Kami Sid as Pakistan's first transgender model.
Kami Sid is the most vocal transgender activist in Pakistan who has represented the trans community locally and internationally. She's trans, she's talented and she's taking over the world one shot at a time.
“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, if I lived through this, I can take the next thing that comes along," said Sid.
With the heinous acts that the transgender community has been facing lately, it was Waqar J Khan's idea to showcase the trans community through a fashion editorial piece. In the process, he approached Depilex for creative support as he had already worked with them for their Smile Again Foundation in the past.
“The entire Idea of taking a transgender as a fashion model was to acknowledge a transgender as ordinary individuals, to give them their rights and tell everybody transgender life matters. Furthermore, working in the fashion industry I feel it's our social obligation to make the masses comprehend their acknowledgement,” highlighted Waqar J Khan.
Transgender lives matter and they have just as much right to opportunities as anyone else. Breaking barriers and celebrating her existence, Kami Sid shines bright in the groundbreaking photoshoot.
More power to you Kami! This is a beautiful collaboration worth celebrating where the skills of a fashion stylist, photographer, makeup artist and transgender activist all unite to fight against the rise in transphobia in Pakistan.
