Karan Johar revealed recently that he was so averse to the idea of Anushka Sharma, the then debutante, being cast as the leading lady opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, that he thought Aditya Chopra had lost his mind.
A report quoted him saying, "I asked Adi not to cast her. When he showed me her photographs, I was like, ‘Are you mad? What are you thinking?’ I would look at her and think what really did he see in her."
He added, "On the first day of shoot, she was in a bridal costume walking in with Shah Rukh, and my mother was like she looks so lost. I was thinking to myself I will have to be nice to her now. Poor think she doesn’t know she won’t be left with a career out of this.”
Anushka, who had then been unaware of the incident, said, “I went back and told my mom he’s so nice.” Karan added, “I watched Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and she was good in it. But what really blew my mind was her performance inBand Baaja Baaraat.” Anushka will be seen next in KJo’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
