Deepika Padukone has been dropped from the upcoming Kalki 2898 AD sequel following reports of disagreements over pay and working conditions.
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone will not return for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, with the film’s producers confirming her exit after disputes about her role and contract terms.
According to industry reports, Padukone had requested a 25% increase in her fee, alongside restrictions on her daily working hours and accommodation for her sizeable entourage in five-star hotels. Producers at Vyjayanthi Movies are also said to have raised concerns about her overall commitment to the project.
This is the second major film Padukone has parted ways with recently, following her withdrawal from Spirit. Allegations surrounding the Kalki sequel also include claims of creative disagreements and dissatisfaction with dialogue delivery in Telugu.
Neither the actress nor the studio has issued a full statement, but the decision has already sparked debate about rising demands from top stars and the pressures of managing big-budget productions in Bollywood.
The sequel, a follow-up to Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic, is expected to go ahead with casting changes as preparations for production continue.
