A teenage boy has been sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in custody for murdering a man in Derby.
16-year-old, Haris Mohammed was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court. The sentencing followed a week trial where the jury was unanimous in finding him guilty of the murder of Tom Webb.
Reporting restrictions banning the identification of Mohammed were lifted at an earlier hearing.
22-year-old, Tom suffered a fatal stab wound on the evening of January 19 this year, when he was walking along St Peter’s Street in Derby city centre with his friends.
He was embroiled in a clash between his group and that of Mohammed, and was stabbed once to the chest during a brief melee.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Cox, who led the investigation said: “I hope that this sentence sends a strong message to anyone who is thinking of carrying a knife.
“Carrying a knife can have serious consequences and this is proof of that. A young man lost his life that night and another youngster will now be spending at least 14 years behind bars."
