Community members have organised a Solidarity and Strength Walk for tonight in a Levenshulme park as a ‘gesture of solidarity’ after a 12-year-old girl was raped.
Police are investigating the serious sex attack which took place in Crowcroft Park shortly before 11.30pm on Thursday September 1.
Tonight’s walk will start from the main entrance to the park on Stockport Road from 8.45pm. The walk will commence at 9:00pm around the perimeter of the park before ending in a vigil. Groups can then walk home along Stockport Road.
A message on the event’s Facebook page said “Residents have the right to walk the local streets without fear and intimidation and we hope that this small gesture will inspire change from the top down, acknowledge solidarity with the victims of violent crime and sexual attacks and combat intimidation by a minority of society.”
Police say an investigation into the attack is still on-going and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2260 of September 1.
