It has been drawn to Sunrise Radio Yorkshire’s attention that businesses in our transmission areas are receiving malicious letters, Whatsapp messages and emails implicating Sunrise Radio Yorkshire regarding a perceived relationship with Ravi Sharma.
Sunrise Radio Yorkshire wishes to express the allegations communicated in these letters are materially and factually incorrect.
The contents of the letter elude to a video which has been heavily shared across social media and depicts veteran radio presenter Ravi Sharma commenting on the ongoing situation in Kashmir at the Indian Independence Day celebrations last month.
In the video Mr Sharma made disputatious remarks against Pakistani people amidst a turbulent time in the Indian Sub-Continent.
Mr Sharma, who has worked for London-based Lyca Dilse radio station, has never worked for Sunrise Radio Yorkshire.
In a statement on Mr Sharma’s comments, Sunrise Radio Yorkshire said: “For the last thirty years, Sunrise Radio (Yorkshire) - which also broadcasts across Manchester, Glasgow and via app and streaming platforms - is and has been an inclusive station which promotes harmony, unity and community cohesion.”
“Sunrise Radio Yorkshire vehemently condemns any such acts which cause and promote division.”
The person or people responsible for these communications is advised to check their facts more thoroughly and ensure their perceptions are correct before launching such a campaign against a station that promotes community cohesion and has done so for the past 30 years.
Circulation of these communications will lay re-posters liable for legal action.
