Police Release Images Of Stabbing Victim's Injuries

Detectives investigating a stabbing have released images of the victim’s injuries in a bid to provoke witnesses into come forward.

Between 8.15pm and 9pm on Sunday 19 June 2016, the 19-year-old victim was driving in a Nissan Micra along the M602 in Salford when the car was stopped by traffic lights at the junction of Regent Road and Albion Way.

A grey/blue family sized car with two men on board also stopped at the traffic lights, beside the Nissan.

Following a short discussion between the occupants of the cars, the passenger from the grey/blue car got out and stabbed the driver of the Nissan in the upper chest with a sharp implement, possibly a knife.

The attacker then got back into the blue/grey car and left the scene.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was treated for serious stab wounds.

The attacker is described as a white man, around 5ft 9ins and in his late 30s. He is of a large, chubby build with a bald/shaven head and no facial hair. He was wearing a black, waterproof hooded jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms.

The driver of the blue/grey car is described as a white man, of a chubby build with grey or white styled hair, in his 30s.

Detective Sergeant Mark Astbury said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack that has left the victim with a nasty injury to his lung and chest.

“As you can see from the injury pictures, he suffered quite severely as a result of this attack, and the idea that this was seemingly unprovoked is very worrying indeed.

“I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen something to call police and tell us anything at all which may assist us in finding this dangerous individual.

“There were a lot of vehicles in the area at that time and I am particularly interested in anyone with a vehicle that has a dashboard camera which may have captured the incident.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
