Police are appealing for information following a cash in transit robbery at a convenience store in Leeds on Thursday.
At 6.40am yesterday morning officers were called to the incident at the Tesco Express, in Wakefield Road, Swillington.
Two men armed with a hammer and a metal bar threatened the security guard and stole a cashbox containing cash. They left the scene in a dark-coloured car and drove off along Church Lane.
The cashbox was found empty a short time later in Swillington Lane.
Detective Inspector Al Cheyne, of Leeds District Crimes Investigation Department, said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the offenders or the vehicle in the area.
“We would also like to speak to anyone who saw them abandoning the empty cashbox in Swillington Lane.
“No-one was injured during the robbery but it was clearly a distressing experience for the security guard and those who witnessed it.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District Crimes Investigation Department via 101.
