A man from Manchester has been charged with terrorism offences and possession of a gun.
Mohammed Abdallah, 25 year old, of Westerling Way, has been charged with three offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.
He has appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Friday) and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on October 7th.
Abdallah has been charged with possession of a firearm – an AK-47 - in connection with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.
He also faces a charge of receiving £2,000, in the intention that it was to be used in connection with terrorism and another charge of belonging to a terrorist organisation.
He is accused of travelling to Syria to join the self-styled Islamic State group in 2014.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “This is part of an on-going investigation by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit and there is not believed to be any wider risk to any communities in Greater Manchester.”
