Great Entertainment At Bradford Sky Ride

The Lord Mayor of Bradford is to wave the starting flag at this Sunday's action packed Sky Ride Bradford.

Coun Geoff Reid will start this year's popular cycling event at 11am in Bradford's award-winning City Park.

Participants can join the route at any stage and at any time whilst the event runs until 3pm.

And there is plenty of entertainment along the way for all the family whether they cycling or just joining in the fun.

Close to the gantry in City Park is The Hub, which is a one-stop shop for cyclists where they can find out more about British Cycling and Sky Ride programmes, have their picture taken in the photo booth or relax and watch the big screen with some food from the Eat Street stalls.

The route snakes through the city centre, down through the train station and on to Little Germany, where you might decide to stop for a refreshment break at the various cafes in the area.

After winding down through the streets, over cobbles and under archways, cyclists then ride along the back of the new Broadway Centre and up to Drake Street to the Tricks and Tunes area.

Heading in to the Tricks & Tunes, riders will pass through the Market Place, located near the court area. Here they can find out about opportunities to get involved with local cycling clubs, or learn about social bike rides with The Bikery, a not-for-profit project which offers training and volunteering opportunities. In addition, they can get some energy to continue on your route by visiting Jenny's sweet stall.

Behind the Market Place, Tricks & Tunes offers the opportunity to take part in lots of fun activities such as the Go-Ride course which is managed by British Cycling coaches to allow young cyclists to gain confidence in obtaining obstacles.

The mountain bike show is one of the highlights of the Tricks & Tunes area, where spectators can enjoy the thrills and spills of The Extreme Bike Show - Europe's number one mountain bike and trials/BMX demonstration team. The demo will be led by multiple British and European trials bike champion Danny Butler.

The Play team is also located in the main car park where you are welcome to have a go on the climbing wall, the trampoline, spider mountain and more.

For the wannabe Cavendishes, there is a sprint zone so you can race against friends and family.

In addition to these centres of activities there will be bands playing along the route, food and drink stalls, and bike hire.  Adapted bikes for disabled young people are available but to be sure to get one they will need to book in advance by contacting Naz on 07793 842016.

A free bib printing service is also available in Tricks & Tunes for all participants that collect a free Sky Ride bib that can be personalised with their own name.

Coun Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, said: "There really is something for everyone at this fabulous event.

"I myself am going to have a go on a tandem which is so much fun. It doesn't matter if you are inexperienced. It is a traffic free route and families can ride together. Just come along and have a go!"

Tom Mutton, British Cycling's Recreation Manager for Bradford, said: "Sky Ride Bradford is a great way to explore the city traffic-free and find out what other cycling opportunities there are in the area too.

"It's a perfect day day out for all the family. The event also marks the start of our Sky Ride Local guided rides that are taking place throughout the summer and our Breeze women's only and Ride Social rides that happen year round on goskyride.com."
