Enjoy The Sparks But Avoid The Ringing In Your Ears This Diwali

While fireworks are lovely to watch, they can be a pain to listen to and the UK’s national charity Action on Hearing Loss is calling on parents during Diwali celebrations to think about their children’s hearing.

Exposure to loud noise above 85 decibels over time can cause permanent hearing damage and with some fireworks reaching an uncomfortable 155 decibels in volume, the charity reminds parents of small children - whose hearing is particularly sensitive – to keep a good distance from all sources of loud noise - such as fireworks or speaker systems, limit the duration of exposure to loud noises, as the louder the noise the less time it takes to damage hearing permanently and get your children to wear ear defenders.

Jesal Vishnuram, Audiologist at Action on Hearing Loss, explained: ‘Without wanting to limit the Diwali fun, it is important to protect children’s hearing from the loud noise exposure.”
