Collision on Bradford Road, Wrenthorpe, in April - Police Appeal

Police are appealing for information after a cyclist was knocked off his bike and threatened in an incident in Wakefield.

Wakefield District Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident on Bradford Road, Wrenthorpe on Tuesday April 19th.

It took place at about 8am after the cyclist, a 40-year-old Wakefield man, was knocked onto the pavement by a Ford van.

The van allegedly then mounted the pavement also, eventually knocking the rider from his bike.

The van had allegedly pulled in front of the cyclist twice beforehand and then pulled away when the cyclist tried to overtake.

Both the cyclist and driver were then involved in an argument during which the cyclist was threatened.

He was not injured in the incident.

PC 6542 Paul McMurran, of Wakefield District Police, said: "We are investigating this incident in which could easily have had some very serious consequences.

"It is only by good fortune that the cycle rider was not seriously hurt and I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or the cycle or van beforehand.

"The initial incidents took place as the cyclist passed a parade of shops while coming on to Bradford Road from Leeds Road.

"He then passed the council depot on his right hand side before been forced off the road by the van just before the Fiat dealership on the left.

"Anyone who saw what happened or has information is asked to contact myself at Wakefield District Police on 101.

"Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 08000 555 111."
