‘One Yorkshire’ – a group of 18 councils in the region – has submitted a £3.75 billion devolution bid.
The bid, submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, outlines plans for a £125m-a-year, 30-year-deal and a directly elected "Mayor for Yorkshire" to be voted in to power by 2020.
It involves all of Yorkshire's local authorities except Sheffield and Rotherham councils.
A letter to Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid from the leaders of the interested councils asked for an "urgent meeting to discuss the proposals" in order to take them forward "swiftly".
