Neerja was among the best films of 2016, with it winning the National Award for the Best Hindi Feature Film, among several other award titles.
The film grossed an estimated Rs 125 crore worldwide and its brilliant portrayal of the heart-breaking incident left everyone stunned and in awe.
The Bhanot family was said to be very cooperative with the filmmakers throughout the making of the film, providing them with all the input they needed. Neerja’s family was eventually very happy with how the film turned out and, with Sonam Kapoor’s performance as the brave heart, all was good - until now! Much to everyone’s surprise, the family has now decided to sue the filmmakers. Why, you ask?
Apparently, according to the family, the filmmakers did not keep to their end of the deal of sharing 10% of box office collections with the Neerja Bhanot Trust. Shocking! On being questioned for details, Annesh Bhanot, Neerja’s brother, told IANS, “I will not comment on this issue at this stage. All I can tell you is that we will not tolerate injustice.” According to sources, the family is reportedly moving to Punjab and Haryana High Court for the case and a notice has already been served to the makers of Neerja.
Even though there is no confirmation of this allegation from the filmmaker’s camp, it doesn’t look like the family is going to take this lying down. After all its glory, the team of Neerja might have a real task at hand this time, with some serious explaining to do!
