Poor Shah Rukh Khan! The actor is busy with his latest release Jab Harry Met Sejal and the last thing he needs is trouble of the legal kind.
Unfortunately, the legal system in India is such that even banal reasons are enough to send a legal notice and create headlines.
According to reports emerging from Indian media, Rajkumar Pandey, a man from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has filed a case against King Khan alleging that he was misleading people. The reason: Pandey developed rashes after using a shaving cream endorsed by Shah Rukh! The advertisement, according to Pandey, claimed that the cream was India’s number one but it turned out to be really bad for the gentleman’s skin and he had to get himself treated at a government hospital. Following the complaint, magistrate Kashinath Singh sent notices to Shah Rukh Khan, the owner of the company that manufactures the shaving cream, a local shopkeeper and the director of Madhya Pradesh Food and Drugs Department.
For a long time, there has been a debate over whether film stars should be held responsible for the products they endorse. Most people tend to ignore ads, especially if the product turns out to be less than satisfactory, but some zealous citizens like Pandey go the whole nine yards, dragging in the brand ambassador as well.
A report in Bollywood Hungama says that the actor’s spokesperson released a statement that read, “First and foremost, Mr. Shah Rukh Khan is currently not the ambassador of the said brand. The contract between the shaving cream brand and Mr. Khan terminated in April 2016. Also, we have not received any notice so far.”
Hopefully that should end the needless noise around a non-issue!
