‘Bend It Like Beckham’ Sequel Confirmed After Lionesses’ Euro 2025 Win

Gurinder Chadha has confirmed a sequel to Bend It Like Beckham, inspired by England’s recent UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 victory. The film will revisit its iconic characters amid the rise of women’s football.

Celebrated filmmaker Gurinder Chadha confirmed in a BBC interview that a follow-up to her hit 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham is in the works, following England’s historic win at the UEFA Women’s European Championship 2025. Set for a tentative release in 2027, the sequel will mark the 25th anniversary of the original film and coincide with the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

“We’ve helped change the landscape for women in sport, so I felt this was the right moment to revisit the characters,” Chadha said. She noted that while much has progressed in women’s football, outdated views still persist. “A lot has shifted, but I believe many still think women shouldn’t play football.”

Chadha said the Lionesses’ inspiring win reignited her desire to continue the story: “I’ve waited quite some time, but then I saw the Euros, saw the Lionesses, and thought—it’s time.” Fans of the original can expect the sequel to celebrate how far women’s sport has come while still addressing the hurdles it faces.
