Last week marked 'Tomorrow's Engineering Week', a campaign designed to help address the fact that 186,000 people with engineering skills will be needed annually through to 2024.

A poll commissioned by The Open University found there are common misconceptions about engineering, from what it means to society to who can become an engineer. The findings show that the British public’s views of the engineering sector are still quite skewed towards it being a masculine, male-dominated industry.

To tell us more about the research and to dispel some of the misconceptions surrounding the industry, we were joined by Open University engineering student Faye Banks and Head of the Open University’s Engineering School Jan Kowal.
