Newcastle United winners of the Championship

Newcastle United claimed the Championship title after defeating Barnsley yesterday, 7 May.

The title was decided after Brighton conceded a late equaliser at Aston Villa, presenting the Magpies with a cherry on the cake to go with Premier League promotion.

Ayoze Perez, Chancel Mbemba and Dwight Gayle scored in the 3-0 victory which sealed the club’s title.

The trophy looked sure to be Brighton’s, after Glenn Murray put the Seagulls ahead of Villa from a penalty spot conversion.

However, Grealish beat Brighton keeper David Stockdale to pave the way for the Magpies to go above Brighton in the table.
