Zainab murder trial underway in Pakistan

The trial of a case of a murdered child, which sparked outrage in Pakistan, started over the weekend.

7-year-old Zainab was found dead on a rubbish heap on 9 January in Kasur. The news caused protests in various cities, with two men killed by officers as the police headquarters in Kasur was stormed.

A suspected serial rapist was arrested and is now undergoing trial at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore.

The court heard that, during the investigation, the suspect had confessed to his involvement in the rape and murder of seven children in Kasur but not to killing Zainab.
