Sherry Rehman has become the first female Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan’s senate.
Rehman’s Pakistan Peoples Party elected the senator to take up the role, with the support of 34 members.
The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party had challenged the nomination, claiming that members supporting her contravened the rules and procedures of the house.
However, Senator Rehman’s party comfortably holds support from the majority of opposition members.
